Socio-educational measures in Ecuador for the social rehabilitation of juvenile offenders [Medidas socioeducativas en el Ecuador en la rehabilitación social de los adolescentes infractores]

This study aims to analyse socio-educational measures in Ecuador and their effectiveness in the social rehabilitation of juvenile offenders. Using a quantitative approach, data was collected through surveys administered to 16 juvenile justice system operators and expert professionals. The results show that socio-educational measures, both custodial and non-custodial, have a positive impact on reducing recidivism and on the social reintegration of adolescents, although challenges related to implementation, resources, and trained personnel persist. The distinction between custodial and non-custodial measures allows for a proportionate and educational approach to unlawful behaviour, promoting both the correction of behaviour and respect for the fundamental rights of adolescents, with the aim of ensuring their comprehensive development and effective reintegration into society.
