Sports mouthguards in dentistry [Protectores bucales deportivos en la odontología]

Objective: to analyze sports mouthguards in their implementation in dentistry. Method: systematic population-based review of 15 scientific articles. Results and Conclusion: Mouthguards represent an essential tool in the prevention of orofacial injuries in contact sports, offering significant benefits both in terms of protection and functionality. However, their widespread adoption faces multiple challenges, such as lack of awareness, perceived discomfort and athlete resistance.
