The current review article aims to analyse the challenges and opportunities of integrating artificial intelligence into basic education in Ecuador. This was done through a systematic review of 25 academic studies published between 2021 and 2025. The following aspects were studied: i) the digital divide and accessibility, ii) teacher training and communities of practice, iii) Universal Design for Learning (UDL), and iv) regulatory and ethical frameworks. It was concluded that AI offers significant opportunities to personalise learning, cater to student diversity, and reposition teachers as designers of inclusive learning experiences. For these possibilities to become a reality, it is essential to coordinate public policies, technological investment projects, and curriculum strategies based on Universal Design for Learning.
