Abstract

Objective: To evaluate the use of corticotomies in adult patients undergoing orthodontic treatment as a therapeutic measure to accelerate tooth movement. Method: Narrative review. The articles analyzed were selected through a comprehensive search of the electronic databases: PubMed, Lilacs, Springer, Scielo, Web of Science, ProQuest, and Google Academic. The search included articles in English, Spanish, and French published from 2014 to 2025. Results: After applying the inclusion criteria, a total of 28 articles were reviewed. The review focused on the use of corticotomies in adult patients undergoing orthodontic treatment. Conclusion: Scientific evidence supports the efficacy of corticotomies in inducing accelerated tooth movement, reducing total treatment time by 6 to 8 months compared to conventional orthodontic treatment.
