Abstract

Objective: To analyse sporotrichosis caused by Sporothrix globosa in South America and its detection mechanisms based on pathogenicity. Method: A literature review was conducted in Scopus, Redalyc and SciELO of publications between 2019 and 2024. The initial search yielded 516 articles, which were reduced to 60 using a search equation, selecting the 20 most relevant. Results: The prevalence reaches 35.45% in Ecuadorian farmers, and S. globosa causes 38% of cases in Venezuela. Real-time PCR based on ITS sequences achieves 100% sensitivity and specificity, detecting up to 6 fg/µL. LAMP combined with immunoglobulin Y detects up to 4.66×10² cells/mL in soil samples. Fifteen polymorphic microsatellite markers were developed for genotyping. TLR2 mediates S. globosa-induced autophagy. The Gp60 and Gp70 antigens show high immunoreactivity. S. globosa shows a preference for urban areas (82%). Conclusions: Sporotrichosis caused by S. globosa is a public health problem in South America.
