Abstract

Objective: To evaluate the effectiveness of clinical simulation as a teaching strategy in the development of professional skills in nursing students at public universities. Methodology: A descriptive cross-sectional study was conducted with 111 neonatal nursing students at the State University of Southern Manabí. A structured questionnaire was administered to assess perceptions of critical thinking, motivation, interprofessional communication, duration of activities, teacher training, and overall satisfaction. Results: 69.37% of participants stated that simulation contributes to the development of critical thinking and decision-making. 89.19% reported increased motivation to learn. Interprofessional communication was rated positively by 58.56% of students. 73.84% considered the overall experience with clinical simulation to be satisfactory. Conclusion: Clinical simulation is an effective teaching strategy that enhances the development of clinical skills, strengthens critical thinking, and improves academic motivation in university nursing students.
