Abstract

The objective of the research is to analyse the impact of abortion and its influence on the human right to life. A review of 11 academic articles was carried out using a descriptive and documentary methodology. The study of abortion from a legal perspective reveals a complex tension between the right to life of the unborn and the reproductive rights of women, which requires a normative balance that responds to both bioethical principles and international human rights standards. Absolute criminalisation, far from resolving this tension, has proven to generate adverse effects, especially for women in vulnerable situations, without fully complying with the objective of protecting life.
