The cloning of vehicle license plates is a crime that has acquired a worrying relevance in Ecuador, affecting both citizens and institutions. The objective of this study is to explore the problem of license plate cloning in Santo Domingo de los Tsáchilas, Ecuador. We worked methodologically with a qualitative research of exploratory type, being complemented with a documentary review of 10 scientific articles. The cloning of vehicle license plates in Santo Domingo de los Tsáchilas, Ecuador, represents a complex problem that transcends the individual, affecting citizen security, trust in institutions and the economy. This crime, facilitated by the vulnerability of the computer systems of the National Transit Agency (ANT) and the lack of a specific legal classification, not only harms vehicle owners, but also becomes a facilitator of serious criminal activities such as robberies, kidnappings and illicit trafficking.
