The criminal liability of adolescents in homicide cases constitutes a considerable challenge for legal systems, and the objective of this study is to analyse criminal liability and punitive measures for adolescents involved in homicide in Ecuador. The research work was carried out by means of a legal documentary review, the selected documentary population is composed of 13 scientific articles. The criminal treatment of adolescents in homicide cases poses complex challenges that require a balanced approach between responsibility and reintegration, in accordance with the principles of proportionality and human rights. The review of criminogenic factors, the impact of child abuse and the importance of restorative justice highlight the need for a system that not only punishes, but also addresses the underlying factors of juvenile criminal behaviour.
