Knowledge of Quervain's tenosynovitis and occupational impact in dental students [Conocimiento de tenosinovitis de Quervain y repercusión laboral en estudiantes de odontología]

Objectives: To evaluate the level of knowledge about Quervain's tenosynovitis and its occupational impact in tenth-semester dental students at UNIANDES. Method: Cross-sectional descriptive study conducted on 43 tenth-semester students through a structured 12-item survey that evaluated knowledge about symptomatology, pain location, intensity using visual analog scale, and preventive measures. Results: 100% of students reported discomfort during the use of dental instruments. 58% located pain in the thumb area, 26% in the wrist, and 16% in the palm. According to VAS scale, 79% presented mild pain, 16% moderate, and 5% severe. 79% experienced occasional pain and 21% permanent. Only 70% consulted a doctor for these discomforts. Conclusions: There is a significant deficiency in knowledge about Quervain's tenosynovitis among dental students, requiring the implementation of specific preventive protocols to avoid future occupational disability.
