Management of complex odontoma. Literature review [Manejo de Odontoma complejo. Caso Clínico]

A complex odontoma is a benign odontogenic tumour formed by disorganised dental tissue. It accounts for 20-25% of odontogenic tumours and frequently causes obstruction of tooth eruption. We present the case of a 17-year-old female patient with right maxillary retromolar pain and retention of the upper third molar. The diagnosis was made by panoramic radiography and computed tomography, which revealed a radiopaque mass with partial invasion of the maxillary sinus. Treatment consisted of surgical excision of the odontoma and extraction of the retained tooth under local anaesthesia. The postoperative course was favourable with no complications. This case illustrates the importance of early imaging diagnosis and timely surgical treatment to prevent complications in dental development.
