Abstract

Objective: To identify pulmonary sequelae and complications following COVID-19 disease. Method: Descriptive qualitative research with bibliographic search in databases such as Medline, PubMed, SciELO, WHO using descriptors related to post-COVID pulmonary sequelae. Forty scientific articles were reviewed, of which 25 met inclusion criteria and 18 were used for writing. Results: The most frequent pulmonary sequelae included pulmonary fibrosis, pulmonary embolism, pulmonary hypertension and vascular damage. Patients presented abnormal respiratory function, impaired exercise capacity, reduced carbon monoxide diffusion capacity and persistent inflammation of respiratory tissue. High rates of hospital readmission for pneumonia and respiratory diseases were observed. Conclusions: Persistent post-COVID syndrome generates multiple pulmonary complications that require multidisciplinary follow-up and long-term specialized management.

Descriptors: sequelae; pulmonary complications; COVID-19. (DeCS)
