Abstract

Objective: Compare the efficacy and safety of HIF-PHI versus erythropoietin with iron in the treatment of anaemia in patients with chronic renal failure. Method: Systematic review of 16 studies. Results and Conclusion: Although both approaches show similar effectiveness in raising haemoglobin levels, HIF-PHI offer particular benefits by generating a more natural and stable erythropoietic response, improving the utilisation of iron in the body through the regulation of hepcidin, and promoting treatment compliance through their oral administration. However, questions remain about their cardiovascular safety in the medium and long term, particularly regarding the risk of thromboembolic events and the possible stimulation of abnormal cell growth.
