Objective: to analyse the role of forensic odontology in the identification of human remains. Method: systematic review of 15 scientific articles. Results and Conclusion: Forensic odontology stands out as a fundamental scientific discipline in the field of human identification, particularly in complex scenarios such as mass disasters, criminal investigations and cases of human remains subjected to extreme conditions of degradation. Its effectiveness lies in the high resistance of dental structures to adverse factors, which makes them a reliable source of information for unequivocal identification. Likewise, technological advances, such as the digitisation of records, the implementation of teledentistry and the integration of forensic genetics, have significantly increased its accuracy and applicability, allowing for more complex cases to be addressed.
