Benefits of ozone therapy in patients with periodontal disease. Systematic review

Objective: analyse the benefits of ozone therapy in patients with periodontal disease. Method: systematic review of 19 scientific articles. Results and Conclusion: Ozone therapy is considered a safe and effective therapeutic technique, as it does not generate chemical waste. Its mechanism of action includes direct antimicrobial effects, immunoregulation, stimulation of antioxidant defences, analgesic and vasodilatory properties. From a clinical point of view, this therapy has shown a significant improvement in periodontal inflammation, notably reducing the rate of gingival bleeding. Therefore, it is evident that ozone therapy, combined with conventional periodontal treatment, reduces the likelihood of progression of periodontal disease.
