Abstract

Objective: to describe primary hyperaldosteronism and its relationship with arterial hypertension. Method: Systematic review. Results and conclusion: Primary hyperaldosteronism (PHA) constitutes a relevant aetiology of secondary arterial hypertension, particularly in young patients, whose timely identification is essential to mitigate the risk of long-term cardiovascular and renal complications. Despite advances in diagnostic techniques, such as adrenal venous sampling and genetic characterisation, their clinical application faces limitations related to accessibility, technical complexity and costs.
