Objective: analyse the medical record as a confidential document. Method: Systematic review of 15 scientific articles. Results and conclusion: It can be concluded that, although the regulatory framework on confidentiality varies between countries, it establishes common principles that should guide professional practice, with continuous training in legal aspects being essential; likewise, the digitisation of medical records has significantly transformed the management of health information, requiring new strategies to protect confidentiality in electronic environments and the continuous adaptation of security protocols.
