Abstract

Objective: to analyze the benefits of interceptive orthodontics in the mixed dentition. Method: Systematic population-based review of 15 scientific articles. Results and Conclusion: Interceptive orthodontics in the mixed dentition is a fundamental tool in the early management of dental and skeletal alterations, making it possible to take advantage of the patient's growth and development to achieve more stable and functional results. Scientific evidence supports its efficacy in the correction of transversal discrepancies, such as functional crossbites, Class II malocclusions and the prevention of maxillary canine impaction, reducing the need for surgical procedures or complex orthodontic treatments in the permanent dentition.
