Abstract

Objectives: To analyse the prevalence, risk factors and prevention strategies for cervical cancer in Ecuador. Method: Descriptive and analytical literature review through systematic searches of scientific databases (PubMed, SciELO, Redalyc) and official reports from the Ecuadorian Ministry of Public Health and INEC (January 2015-November 2024). Results: Prevalence in Ecuador remains high: 1,792 cases and 939 deaths in 2022 (mortality: 52.3/100,000 women). Main risk factors: HPV (70%), early sexual activity (55%), promiscuity (35%), hormonal contraceptives (28.1%). Preventive strategies include HPV vaccination (70% in girls under 15) and screening (50% in women aged 30–49), in line with the WHO 90-70-90 Strategy. Conclusions: Cervical cancer represents a significant public health problem. It is necessary to strengthen vaccination coverage and early detection, improve health education, and expand access to medical services through a comprehensive approach that includes screening programmes, health infrastructure, and continuous epidemiological monitoring.
