Abstract

Objective: analyse the motivations of patients with high blood pressure to attend medical check-ups. Method: descriptive, observational study of 15 patients attending a hospital centre. Results: the results of this study highlight that, although 73.3% of hypertensive patients reported basic knowledge about the complications of hypertension, this knowledge does not always translate into adequate adherence to medical check-ups, as only 6.7% regularly attend preventive consultations. Conclusion: Among the main motivations that could encourage attendance at consultations are the perception of the seriousness of the disease, the recognition of the benefits of continuous treatment and a quality doctor-patient relationship.
