Objective: to carry out a comparative study between ultrasonic instrumentation vs. manual instrumentation in periodontal treatment. Method: systematic population-based review of 15 scientific articles. Results and Conclusion: While ultrasonic instrumentation stands out for its efficiency, less damage to root surfaces and greater comfort for the patient, manual instrumentation remains an essential tool due to its precision and economic accessibility. The choice between the two techniques should be based on the specific needs of the patient, the characteristics of the clinical case and the available resources, considering that the combination of both, together with complementary therapies, can optimize clinical results and favor long-term periodontal health.
