Use of intermaxillary elastics in the orthodontic treatment of skeletal Class II. Narrative Review [Uso de elásticos intermaxilares en el tratamiento ortodóntico de la Clase II esqueletal. Revisión Narrativa]

Objective: Describe the uses of intermaxillary elastics in the orthodontic treatment of skeletal Class II malocclusion. Narrative review. Method: Narrative review. Results: The literature was selected through a search of the electronic databases PubMed, Proquest, Google Scholar, Pesquisa, and Scopus. The keywords used were: Intermaxillary elastics, skeletal Class II, effects, uses. Conclusion: Intermaxillary elastics are currently an essential tool in contemporary orthodontic treatment, but their use requires a thorough understanding of the biomechanical principles involved in order to meet the individual needs of each patient. Careful planning is necessary to properly prescribe elastics and ensure continuous monitoring. Orthodontists can reap many advantages and benefits from using them as a therapeutic tool to minimise risks and adverse effects in patients.
