Abstract

Objective: To explore the relationship between SARS-CoV-2 and subacute thyroiditis, analyzing epidemiological, pathophysiological and clinical aspects. Method: Systematic bibliographic review following PRISMA methodology. Fourteen articles published between 2020-2023 were analyzed in PubMed, Scopus, Web of Science and Elsevier databases. Results: Post-COVID subacute thyroiditis showed an incidence of 13-64% in patients with SARS-CoV-2. The virus binds to thyroid ACE2 receptors generating local inflammation. Patients presented cervical pain, fever, initial thyrotoxicosis with subsequent hypothyroidism. Conclusions: Subacute thyroiditis constitutes a relevant post-COVID complication related to dysregulated immune response. Early clinical surveillance and prospective studies are required to optimize therapeutic management.
