Abstract

Objective: To establish efficient and safe management of the clinical process related to parenteral nutrition, both in its preparation and administration. Methodology: Systematic review of 32 scientific documents. Results: The procedure for the preparation and administration of TPN, given that it is an infusion that goes directly into the bloodstream and therefore the complications that may arise are of vital importance, and thus ensure patient safety. Conclusion: There is a need to implement a standardised protocol and consolidate this information in different healthcare facilities on the preparation of TPN. This is of great importance in reducing the risk of complications and thus contributing in general to recovery and reintegration into daily life, depending on the case or condition.
